This is what dreams are made of

 Hey now! Hey no-ow!

If you are a 90s baby like I am, Lizzie McGuire running about with Paolo crosses your mind when you think of Rome. Venice, Florenze, Pompeii, Rome, and Sorrento for my 26th birthday...hey now, hey now!!

But first, a few pre-flight brews since that's my special defense against pre-trip jitters and getting through long travel journeys. I have horrible flight luck so I'd say a few brews to calm my nerves are well deserved. It also helps with sleep and sets a tasty tone for the trip. I've found airports also have quite the eclectic selection of brews as they want to keep a variety under their belt in anticipation for the many different palettes traversing through their restaurants.

Little secret - for as much traveling as I've done, both domestic and international, I get insanely wild jitters the minute I set off at the airport. I blame it on my bad luck at airports: numerous delays, missed flights, missed connections, cancelled flights, crying in terminals between flights, wondering when TF I'm getting home.....woooo!! They all make for great stories in the end - after a long sleep in my own bed, I'm ready to laugh my butt off at my own travel misfortunes.

Mamasita here had a long ways to Italy - Harrisburg International to Toronto, Canada then onto Frankfurt, Germany before heading to Venice, Italy. Several hours (to say the least) but surprisingly smooth aside from trying to log into the airport wifi networks to take care of work because when you're in middle management, wtf is a true vacation? I was still taking conference calls in China this past summer...

With anticipation mounting - I had a bottle of Alexander Keith's IPA by Oland Brewery at the Custom Built Burgers stand in Toronto Airport while waiting for flight 2 out of 3 to get me closer to Venice. IPAs are my go-to when anxiety is high and I'm hungry and just need a damn beer to calm my travel and work nerves. It seemed rather fitting to go with the Binding Römer Pils at the Frankfurt Airport as "Römer" literally translate to "Roman" auf Deutsch - meine Lieblingsfremdsprache zu sprechen. Ok, ok, enough, I know. I felt right at home among the German speakers and German language all around me.

I am pretty sure I had to pinch myself a few times after touching down. The airport leads down to the port and then a short boat ride to the island on which our hotel stood. I was ecstatic and also really nauseous because motion sickness apparently is not something I can easily outgrow unfortunately.

After a brief check-in back home and a nice hot bath in the hotel, I'm ready to explore the area and new brews. When in Rome...*ahem* Venice, do as the Venetians do.

Birra, per favore.
